The Greene County Board of Supervisors met Thursday.

During reports, County Attorney Thomas Laehn told the Board his office now has 74 pending criminal cases, which is typically compared to over 100 cases this past fall. He described a previous criminal case from January 28, 2022, when two of three suspects were sentenced to prison for their roles in stealing an ATM machine from Wild Rose Casino and Resort in Jefferson. The third individual was given probation, but violated those terms in California. Laehn said they extradited that suspect back to Iowa where a judge revoked the probation and imposed the ten year prison sentence that had been suspended.

County Engineer Wade Weiss talked about partnering with Greene County Conservation to apply for funding from Region XII Council of Governments to pave from Winkleman Switch into Guthrie County on the Raccoon River Valley Trail for a total of 14 miles.

The Board then approved the wage publication report for the 2023 calendar year, a resolution to transfer $75,000 from general basic to conservation reserve, $8,000 from general basic to the bike trail fund, and $5,000 from Local Option Sales and Services Tax (LOSST) to the bike trail. They also approved a resolution to increase the wages for accounts payable/payroll clerk position in the county auditor’s office, and a resolution establishing an opioid settlement funds allocation committee.

The meeting ended in budget workshops for the 2025 fiscal year, with requests from county conservation, veterans affairs, clerk of court, general assistance and public health. No action was taken following the requests.
