With the first major snowfall having gone through the area, road crews had their first snow clearing job of the year.

Guthrie County Engineer Josh Sebern says that with the amount of snow that fell, and with the wind blowing snow back onto the roads, the Secondary Roads Department spent a lot of time on the roads. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio that they’ve also been working to make sure that their equipment is ready for the rest of the winter.

“The shop has been doing an awesome job of refitting the graders and the wear items, the V plows. We plowed so many miles of road that the shoes were worn off on them, and getting the graders in and swapping tire chains out and servicing them, rotating them in and out of here so they could get back in service.”

Sebern adds that for times when de-icing materials are needed, like sand, salt and a mix of the two, they have a good stockpile of all three left to use, and will be able to try and keep the roads safe.
