The Jefferson Public Library has started two adult programs.
The traditional Adult Winter Reading Program began on January 12th and goes until March 16th. Library Director Jane Millard says the goal is for adults to read six books, come to two of the four scheduled programs and complete 20 of the activities to be entered into the grand prize drawing. Millard adds the theme for this year is “Reading Grab Bag” and points out that everything is unrelated from the reading options to the activities and programs. She says some of the activities were from ideas that library staff had in previous years that didn’t fit a certain theme and some ideas were from the public.
The other program that is underway is the “Read 24 in ‘24.” This program goes throughout the year where people are encouraged to read 24 books in 2024. Millard says a reading log from the library must be used to keep track of the books that are read and then once it is completed and turned into the library by December 31st, you are entered into a drawing, where three people will win prizes. Those prizes include $100 in Chamber Bucks, a new tablet computer, or a bag of book lover surprises. Each winner will also get to choose a book to add to the library.
Participants must have a Jefferson Library card to participate and books can either be checked out at the library, or from another source. The prize drawing will be on January 2, 2025.
