Questions arise pertaining to the policy around hiring in the county, alongside other items that received extensive discussion at the Dallas County Board of Supervisors meeting on Tuesday.

Human Resources Director Beth Deardorff said there’s no deadline yet for a proposed county hiring policy as things are still tentative. Mike Wallace, Conservation Director, addressed a few areas that he claimed weren’t in the written policy. After a lengthy discussion, the Board decided to table it for now and return to it another time.

The Board approved the resolution for the final plat of RB Subdivision, which included two lots on the northwest side of Perry. Two other items the Board tabled to a future meeting  was the Adel Farmer’s Market on the Courthouse Lawn and a monster acres deed for Dallas County. Gretchen Wilson, who is co-owner of the Adel Farmer’s Market with her father, is attempting to use the courthouse lawn for their business. However, the Board thought the times of operation presented to them wouldn’t work due to conflicting work hours. No action was taken as the co-owners are looking for a place with enough space.

The other item had to do with the monster acres deed for Dallas County. This project would be looking to dedicate half of “S” Avenue to the county and possibly use the other half as an easement. The surveyor behind the project wasn’t present at the meeting as another representative shared the vision. The Board had concerns about the benefits for the county. The Board tabled the topic, pending further information.

There was also a budget workshop for the sheriff before the meeting adjourned.
