Greene County was second to Roland-Story (Story City) in Friday’s Heart of Iowa Activities Conference wrestling tournament hosted in Monroe by PCM. Gavin Scheuermann (157 lbs.) and Brent Dennhardt (165) won individual titles and all 11 Rams placed fourth or higher. Scheuermann went 3-0 on Friday to put him at 101 career victories. The senior is 21-2 this season and Dennhardt improved to 29-3.
Finishing second for Greene County were Jaron Jacobs (106) and Jacob Harmeyer (126). Crew Conner (138), Jackson Turner (150), Degan Miller (175), and Marcus Ball (215) were all third place finishers with Gavyn Winters (113), Kolby Angell (132) and Zeke Binkley (144) finishing in fourth place. The Rams were open at 120, 190, and 285, but still were just 10.5 points behind the Norsemen. R-S was the only team to fill all 14 weight classes.
The last dual meets on the schedule are set for Tuesday at 6 p.m. in Manson vs. Manson-Northwest Webster and CAM (Anita). Coach Kirk Davis’ team wrestles on Saturday in Guthrie Center at the ACGC Charger Invitational, and as of this writing that’s the last event on the regular season schedule. Coach Davis hasn’t ruled out trying to schedule another meet between Jan. 27 and the Class 2A District Tournament in Atlantic on Feb. 10.
