Friday, January 5th

5:43am: An officer responded to a Fire Alarm Activation at 401 West McKinley Street. The building was secure and no fire was located.

7:49am: A caller advised of a Careless Driver on 220 th , heading east into Jefferson. The officer located the reported vehicle and spoke to the driver.

8:26am: A Property Manager spoke with an officer about suspicious activity at a Jefferson property.

9:00am: The Greene County School District advised an officer of a possible threat on Social Media from a student. The officer investigated and determined it was not a threat, but a bad choice of wording in the post.

5:16pm: Bomgaars reported a shoplifting at 205 West McKinley Street. Employees witnessed a male place pipe fittings in his pocket and leave without paying for the items. The officer is investigating.

7:14pm: A Traffic Stop near North Cedar and Perry Streets resulted in Jason Sheldahl of Jefferson being cited for, “Driving While Suspended and Fail to Provide Proof of Financial Liability.”

7:18pm: Julie Smith requested a Welfare Check on her young grandson, who resides in Jefferson. The officer located the mother and child at a residence. The child appeared to be fine.

9:14pm: Ashly Elliott reported hearing someone screaming for help in the 200 Block of State Street. The officer did not locate anyone in the area.

Saturday, January 6th

11:23am: Bomgaars called and advised the male shoplifter from the previous day was now back in the store at 205 Wesst McKinley Street. The officer arrived and spoke to the subject. Michael Lee Eastman, 50 of Jefferson was arrested and charged with, “5th Degree Theft.”

12:36pm: A Search Warrant was put together and executed at 201 East Perry Street. Officers were assisted by the Sheriff’s Office in the execution. The warrant is in relation to the Bomgaars Shoplifting incidents. Suspected Methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia was seized into Evidence for testing. The stolen items from Bomgaars were not located during the search.

12:45pm: An officer was requested at 405 North Locust Street. The officer transported a female to ER to be evaluated by a medical doctor.

3:48pm: Mary Norgart reported a dog, possibly has chain stuck on a swing set, in the 300 Block of North Cedar Street. The officer did not locate the reported animal.

6:56pm: A caller advised an officer of posts on Social Media by a male juvenile in Jefferson, advising he wished to harm himself. The officer made contact with the youth and his father. He was taken to ER for an evaluation by a medical doctor.

8:04pm: An officer arrested Joshua Michael Faller, 49 of Jefferson at 608 South Olive Street. Faller had an outstanding warrant for, Fail to Appear.” The original charge was, “Disorderly Conduct.”

10:18pm: John Kellog reported subjects arguing and slamming doors at 305 North Wilson Ave. The officer’s investigation led to the arrest of Austin Ray Higgins-Owens, 19 of Jefferson for, ‘Providing False Information-Simple and Possession of Alcohol by person Under 21.”

11:47pm: An officer was advised of a large brush fire at 902 North Pinet Street. The officer arrived and found a male was tending to the fire.

Sunday, January 7th

1:31am: An officer located an Open Door at 104 North Elm Street. The key holder was contacted and advised.

7:33am: An officer assisted the GC Ambulance with a Medical Call in the 500 Block of North Wilson Ave.

10:11am: An officer was made aware of a male juvenile, who made a statement about possibly being the next shooter. The statement was overheard by another juvenile. The officer spoke to the youth and his mother about the issue. The subject understood how the statement was inappropriate, in light of the recent tragedy in Perry. No direct threat was made, just a poor use of words by the juvenile.

11:52am: Dollar General Advised of stray cat at 104 North Locust Street. The officer placed the cat in the Animal Holding Facility.

11:53pm: An officer located an Open Door at 117 North Chestnut Street. The key holder was left a voicemail.

11:59pm: An officer located an Open Door at 123 North Chestnut Street. The keyholder was contacted.

Monday, January 8th

1:19am: An officer located an Open Door at 600 East Lincoln Way Street. The building was secured by the officer.

9:29am: A Welfare check was requested on a male subject at 304 East Washington Street. The officers spoke to the subject, who was transported to ER for an evaluation by a medical doctor.

12:30pm: Dispatch advised of a semi on fore south of Jefferson, near the river bridge. The officer and deputies did not locate anything.

3:09pm ER advised of a Cat Bite. The officer arrived and learned an owner picked the animal up by the scruff of it’s neck. The cat reacted to this and scratched him and bit him. The animal is current on all licenses and rabies vaccinations. The situation does not fit an “Unprovoked Attack.” The animal will be quarantined for 10 Days, as the state requires.

11:03pm: An officer was advised of a vehicle with an open trunk, parked at 1801 North Elm Street. The officer determined the vehicle had sat there during the storm and no tracks were located in the snow. The officer secured the vehicle.

Tuesday, January 9th

3:14am: Zafer Dadakhel reported a Suspicious Vehicle following him into Jefferson from the east on 220th Street. He advised that he believed the vehicle had been following him since Davenport. The officer spoke to him at 606 Hwy. 30 East. He could not provide a description of the vehicle and it was not in the area. 

6:05am: Public Works reported a Backing Accident in the city parking lot, located at Harrison and Wilson Ave. An employee was removing snow with the city’s payloader and backed into a parked vehicle. The 2016 Chevrolet Malibu is owned by Imagine the Possibilities. The officer estimated the damage to the vehicle at $1000.00. The payloader was not damaged. City, County, and State employees are exempt from the “Unsafe Backing” statue while performing job duties, like snow removal.

9:09am: The Cobblestone requested an officer at 771 Wild Rose Lane for a female, who had walked to the facility. The officer spoke to the female, who advised she had walked from Des Moines in the past few days and was trying to get to Denison. The officer could not provide any assistance.

3:10pm: Officers performed a Welfare Check on a female at 203 East Perry Street. The female was taken to ER by the officers to be evaluated by a Medical doctor.

4:44pm: Wade Weiss advised that a courthouse employee had lost the keys to his vehicle. The vehicle was going to be parked in the street overnight and removed the next day. The officer forwarded the information to the Public Works Director.

6:27pm: Samantha Bates spoke to an officer in connection to a Civil Issue involving a vehicle.

********* Officers issued 12 Snow Parking Violations during the recent snow storm.
