Raccoon Valley Radio is reporting that a shooting has occurred at Perry High School. Perry First Responders, Dallas County Sheriff, Iowa State Patrol, Dallas County EMS, Dallas Fire Department, Dallas and Boone County Ambulances, Air Ambulances, Ogden and Greene County Ambulances, plus Dallas, Guthrie, and Greene County Sheriff Offices has responded. Life Flight has been called in as well to assist on the scene.

Streets around the middle and high school have been blocked off. Elementary is locked down. All students in building are being kept in their rooms per ALICE procedure…all families after lockdown occurred are being turned away from the building.

Perry High School Teacher Lori Meinecke said that around 7:40am, she heard about six to seven gunshots followed by the voices of several school coaches encouraging everyone to evacuate the area. When asked what the procedure is for teachers during an active shooter, Meinecke responded, “Clear the building away from the active shooter.” As for the students, they are taught to be sent to the armory, according to Meinecke.

Perry Middle and High Schools have been closed for the remainder of the day. Middle school students are being moved to the Reunification location in order for parents to pick up their children. The McCreary Center in Perry is the pickup location for elementary students and those in daycare.

There will be NO SCHOOL tomorrow for Perry.

Perry Public Library Counseling Services will be held from 10am-3pm tomorrow and on Saturday.

Panorama and West Central Valley Schools are currently not on lockdown.
