jamaica-library

For those looking to get rid of batteries in the Jamaica area, the Jamaica Public Library can accept them.

The is partnered with West Central Iowa Solid Waste through Guthrie County Solid Waste Agencies, and is a drop off location for batteries that have been deemed hazardous waste. Lithium, lithium-ion, nickel/metal hydride, mercury/silver oxide and nickel cadmium batteries can all be dropped off for recycling. These types of batteries are commonly found in electronics like smartphones and tablets, watches, hearing aids and power tools. These batteries are deemed hazardous, because they can explode and cause fires going through the systems used by landfills and recycling centers to compact and transport materials. Alkaline batteries are not accepted, as they can safely be disposed of in the trash.
