It’s day two of the new year, but day one of the 2024 portion of the high school wrestling season for the Greene County Rams. Coach Kirk Davis’ Rams travel to Greenfield for a non-conference quadrangular starting at 5:30 p.m. with host Nodaway Valley, Martensdale-St. Mary’s, and Lenox. NV is 10-1 in dual meets while Greene County is 6-5, M-SM stands at 2-3 and Lenox is 1-3.
Greene County is led by its two State Tournament veterans in senior Gavin Scheuermann at 157 lbs. and junior Brent Dennhardt at 165. Scheuermann is 12-2 this season and 92-26 for his career and he’s ranked fifth in Class 2A. Dennhardt, ranked seventh, is 18-1 with his only loss by one point to a 2023 State Champion from Wisconsin.
Coach Davis is hoping to be able to fill 11 or 12 of the 14 weight classes tonight. Greene County has forfeited as many as five weight classes this season and forfeits are a major reason the Rams have lost five of their 11 dual meets.
