The Perry City Council recently approved purchasing property for a need.

City Administrator Sven Peterson says the Council approved a purchase agreement for $200,000 to buy 1120 West 3rd Street from Wuebkers Auto Body and Service. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio this purchase was made after several months working with public works, cemetery and parks departments on a needs assessment with their equipment and workshop areas, and it was determined that more space was a priority.

Peterson notes city staff considered other locations, even building a new structure.

“We were going to spend more on that than this existing building. So it made the most fiscal sense to be able to kind of make some short term gains on our facility needs and buy us some time in the future to make investments into additional facilities.”

The new property is about 29,000 square feet with 7,600 square feet of facilities. Peterson points out it also includes another security measure.

“Over the last couple of years we’ve had a couple of issues with some of our trailers or something like that wandering off in the night. So definitely being able to secure all of our equipment in a nice organized, orderly fashion is going to be very, very helpful for us.”

Peterson adds the new facility will be used initially for storage for city equipment.
