With the warmer temperatures this month, Jefferson Public Works crews have remained busy.

Public Works Director Dave Morlan says one major project that the street department has been focused on is tree removal, with about 75 trees that were taken down this month.

“They started going north and south on Cedar Street and they’ve worked their way across the highway now over to Oak Street. They’ll continue to work west across town and once they get the north/south streets done, they’ll go east and west. I would think, since over the last two years, we’re probably about 440 trees that we’ve taken down.”

Morlan points out tree removal will continue into next year, with most of the trees that are left to be removed are in the right of ways. He adds other items that crews have been working on include one final passing with the street sweeper to collect as many leaves as possible, grading roads to prepare for when the ground freezes and repairing a water valve leak, as well as digging up a water service line that was also leaking.
