Law enforcement agencies across the state will be out in force until after the holidays are over.
Iowa State Patrol Trooper Shelby McCreedy says that agencies in every level are participating in the Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau STEP wave initiative, and tells Raccoon Valley Radio about what that entails.
“So what that means is between now and January 1st, there is going to be a high visibility enforcement campaign, which essentially means you’re going to see extra personnel on the roadway at all times of the day.”
McCreedy mentions that the reason the STEP wave is taking place now, is to try and limit the amount of crashes and fatalities during the holiday season, as last year during December there were over 1,100 arrests related to impaired driving.
