With winter approaching, people need to prepare for the chance of winter weather alerts.
Adair and Guthrie County Emergency Management Coordinator Bob Kempf says that by listening to local news sources, like TV stations and radio stations, residents can be better prepared. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio how catching advisories early is the key to preparation.
“One of the things about a lot of our winter weather is the advisories. The watches and the warning are put out usually quite well in advance. It’s not like our severe storms that blow up in an afternoon or a matter of a few hours. Most of our advisories, their just information that comes from the weather service. You can get that through our Alert Iowa system.”
Kempf mentions that advisories are just that, a warning that there could be some weather patterns that come through and cause an inconvenience.
