Another downtown building in Jefferson recently received financial help with a city grant.

The Jefferson City Council approved a $38,360 facade grant for David Palmer, who is the owner of Highland Medical Group and their new location at 118 East State Street. City Administrator Scott Peterson says this was the city’s 50/50 match exterior improvement grant program that is commonly known as the second phase of the Community Development Block Grant. He talks about the project.

“This would be a traditional facade improvement type project (and) very consistent with the designs that are downtown already. So it’s historical in the way that it re-designs the front to be consistent with the historical aspects of it. Looking forward to it (and) it’ll be another nice addition.”

Peterson adds that because the building is in the Historic Main Street District, Iowa Main Street representatives provided a free conceptual design for the front facade. The total cost of the facade project is $76,720.
