Since it is the holiday season, one familiar and recognizable icon is coming back to a couple of locations in Greene County.
The Salvation Army Service Unit in Greene County will be conducting its Red Kettle Campaign Friday evenings and Saturdays starting this weekend for four weekends at Jefferson Fareway and Hy-Vee. Additionally, there will be bell ringers at both locations on December 20th and 21st.
Bill Monroe with the local organization says last year they raised $5,063 that helped many individuals and families with their rent, utilities, transportation and other needs. During the Red Kettle Campaign, 90-percent stayed locally. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio their goal for this year is $7,000 that will continue to help anyone in need. Monroe adds those individuals who want to donate directly to the Salvation Army Service Unit in Greene County, 100 percent of that donation will remain in the county.
The Salvation Army Office in Omaha, Nebraska provides additional support for Greene County whenever there is a fire or another disaster.
