With practices underway for the 2023-24 basketball seasons at Greene County High School, we take a look at the two varsity squads. Tori Ogden is in her third season as a head coach, all at Greene County, with the girls’ program, and Chris Nelson is in his 17th season heading a boys’ basketball program, his eighth with the Rams.
The girls have some height with four players in the 5′ 10″ to 5′ 11″ range. Guard play could be a key as the girls’ look to improve on a one win season of a year ago. Over the last five seasons, Greene County girls’ teams have been a combined 14-94 and turnovers have played a huge role.
The boys don’t have a lot of size, so the experience and possible strength could come from guard/forward play. Shooting three-point shots is nothing new for a Coach Nelson team, and the ability to connect from long range could be paramount to success on the court.
Greene Cuonty opens the girls’ season this Tuesday the 21st with a JV/varsity doubleheader in Woodward vs. Woodward-Granger. We’ll broadcast the varsity game on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com with tip off around 7:30 p.m. The first girl/boy doubleheader of the season in on Nov. 27 at Ogden.
