A chain-reaction vehicle collision resulted in multiple injuries Tuesday in Greene County.

According to the Greene County Sheriff’s Office, the sheriff and deputies, along with the Jefferson and Scranton Fire Departments, Grand Junction Rescue and Greene County Ambulance responded to the scene at 8:34am on US Highway 30 near Granite Avenue.

The sheriff’s office reports that three vehicles were stopped in the westbound lane of the highway for road construction. A 2019 International Semi Tractor-Trailer that was driven by 49-year-old Ray Bright of Boone was also heading west and didn’t stop in time and rear-ended a 2002 Chrysler Voyager that was driven by Keeley Nelson. The collision started a chain-reaction of rear-endings as the Voyager hit the rear-end of a 2019 Dodge Caravan, driven by Christi McKinsey, which then struck a 2023 Chevrolet Traverse that was driven by Zachary Schrader. The Caravan went into the north ditch after hitting the Traverse.

The sheriff’s office says five people were injured in the incident and were taken to Greene County Medical Center. The Voyager and Caravan were totaled in the incident, the Traverse had $20,000 of damages, and the semi tractor had $10,000 in damages. Bright was cited for failure to stop in assured clear distance.
