John McConnell (left) and Steve Fisher (right) retiring after 13 combined years
At the most recent Greene County School Board meeting, there were some changes to the makeup of the Board.
Two Board members officially retired after not seeking re-election in the recent school board election. John McConnell was first elected to the school board in 2015 and won re-election in 2019. Steve Fisher first served on the school board when he won a special election in 2017 to fill a vacancy and then won again in 2019 to serve a full four year term.
Greene County School District Superintendent Brett Abbotts says both McConnell and Fisher have had a significant impact on the district while serving as school board members, from the passage of the bond referendum for a new high school and career academy to making the transition of hiring him as the new superintendent.
“I can’t thank John and Steve enough for their guidance and leadership being on our school board. I think it just goes without saying they have both had a really serious impact on the school district and the community at large and just really thank them for their 13 years of service.”
As for the new school board members, Tim Riphagen and Connie Boyd enter their first terms as they were officially sworn in at the November meeting. Abbotts is looking forward to working with both of the new board members and believes they want to serve for the betterment of the students and the community.
McConnell and Fisher were recognized at the meeting with plaques and a lifetime activities pass for them and a guest.
