Two Esports Teams from Greene County High School have qualified for their respective state tournaments.
The defending state champion Smite Team is undefeated this fall season and is heading into the state tournament in Marshalltown as the top seed. They won the state title last spring and head coach Conner Mueller says the Smite Team has been really impressive this season. They had to overcome some early challenges and because of how knowledgeable they are as a team, they fed off of each other well.
The Rainbow 6 Siege Team won their substate game last week and qualified for the state tournament. Coach Mueller says the Rainbow 6 Siege Team has been grinding it out all season and had to overcome two hard losses. He points out the team came together and pressed on to forge a path to the state tournament. While Smite is a fantasy team fighting game, Rainbow 6 Siege is a tactical shooter game, where the goal is to either rescue a hostage, defuse a bomb or take control of an object within a room. Mueller notes they focus on defusing the bomb aspect.
The Smite Team will defend its state championship tomorrow and Rainbow 6 Siege will compete starting Thursday.
