The Jayettes had a strong close to their season in the pool on Saturday as they finished tied for 19th place overall behind Grinnell in the state swim meet at the Marshalltown YMCA. It was a two day event both on Friday and Saturday. On Friday, Quinn-Mahler Moreno put up a 1:54:35 in the 200 freestyle which was 6th overall. That was a personal best time and new school record for Perry. That time advanced her to the finals in that event. Sophia McDevitt put up a 1:02:25 in the 100 butterfly. That was a personal best time for Sophia as well. Mahler-Moreno then put up a 1:05:62 in the 100 Breaststroke, which again was another personal best and new school record. That time was good to advance her to the finals as well. This was all Friday action at the state swim meet. We then got into Day 2 of the state meet at Marshalltown. Mahler-Moreno finished in 8th place for Perry with a time of 1:54:52 in the 200 freestyle again. That was good enough to score the Jayettes 11 points in the meet. Mahler-Moreno, Lilly Riley, Aleah Karolus, and Sophia McDevitt placed in 26th in the 200 freestyle relay. That placed them in 26th. Mahler-Moreno then put up a time of 1:06:70 in day 2 of the 100 breaststroke, giving the Jayettes another 5 points. Lastly, Riley, Karolus, McDevitt, and Mahler-Moreno put up a 3:48:98 in the 400 freestyle relay, placing them in 20th.
That closes out all the results of this years state swim meet. Congratulations to all Perry Jayettes in the pool on a spectacular season. You have so much to be proud of.
