November holds an important holiday for veterans, but Guthrie County Veterans Affairs Coordinator Beth Watson says that there are several things her office is looking at doing this month.
Watson mentions that there are several programs and meals around the county that will be in celebration of Veterans Day, and that she’s glad to see all the support for veterans that residents of Guthrie County have. She tells Raccoon Valley Radio that one company is holding a month-long event to help veterans.
“For the month, we are engaging with Panora Fiber. They are doing a breakfast donation. So like, they’re doing a food drive but for breakfast items. So I had my commissioners bring food items for breakfast to donate, and we’ll take those to them this month.”
Watson shares that her office, along with its counterparts in Audubon and Adair Counties, will bring in a speaker on suicide prevention, to go over suicide statistics for each of the counties. She adds that they will meet with the Veterans Affairs Suicide Prevention contact on November 14th, to see what resources and information is available to them. Watson explains that she will also be participating in a volunteer opportunity with US Senator Joni Ernst’s office to package meals for those in need on November 29th.
