The city of Jefferson has once again earned a statewide grant as the catalyst for renovating a downtown building.

A $100,000 Challenge Grant from Iowa Economic Development Authority was awarded Thursday to Nikki and Rudy Uebel who own 100 North Wilson Avenue, where Legacy ReMax and Midwest Behavioral Health are located. The funds will be used to improve the facade of the building, as well as renovating the two upper story apartments. The Uebels purchased the building in 2021 and the two businesses have officially been open for over one year.

The total cost of the project is $261,478 with a $161,478 match. The Challenge Grant is for projects that need help for redevelopment or rehabilitation of buildings to stimulate economic growth and further investment in a community’s historic main streets. Jefferson was one of ten recipients for a total of $925,000 in grants. Click here to see the full list of the recipients.
