Tonight, the ADM Tigers football team is heading to Council Bluffs for a highly-anticipated rematch against the Lewis Central Titans. In their first encounter during week 3, the Titans ended up winning with a final score of 38-31. This was also the game where the Tigers lost their star running back, Brevin Doll, setting off a series of injuries that continued throughout their regular season.
The Tigers have come a long way since that initial loss, and tonight they have a chance to seek revenge, this time on the Titans’ home turf. Head Coach Randy Schrader acknowledges the Titans’ strength and understands the effort required to secure a win.
“Well in that game, they’re really good,” Coach Schrader said. “I mean, they might be right now I think Western Dubuque, and them are probably the top two teams in class 4A. We gave them a battle. We made some mistakes even without Brevin, but we had some turning points in the game.”
Coach Schrader also highlighted the improvements the Tigers have made since their first meeting with the Titans, particularly on defense. “We’re a better defensive team now than we were then. We made changes on our defense after that game. Our kids fly to the ball much better.”
The coach emphasized the importance of special teams and ball security in the upcoming game. “we really think special teams and a turnover or two here and there in this upcoming game is going to be a big difference.” As for the key to success on Friday night, coach Schrader believes it also comes down to defense and the kicking game. “Field position is going to be really important. If our defense can get them to punt and we can sustain drives, we’ve got a chance to be successful.”
He also stressed the significance of turnovers. “Turnovers are going to be a big determining factor on Friday night. You know, who wins the turnover battle.”
The rematch promises to be an intense showdown between two formidable teams. Both sides are eager to prove themselves, and the Tigers are determined to even the score after their early-season setback. As they head to Council Bluffs, they do so with a renewed sense of enthusiasm and a commitment to giving it their all. The Tigers have their sights set on a victory, but they know that it won’t come easy.
