With the state cross country meet officially in the books for Yonas Andemichael and the Perry Bluejays, I sat down with the head coach for the Perry boys cross country team, Tina Lutterman. She said she is very proud of Yonas Andemichael’s performance after he put up a 17:46 in the state meet at Fort Dodge this past weekend. She said he put it on the line despite tough weather conditions.
“I’m always proud of Yonas and he gave everything he had on Saturday to the race and he worked as hard as he could, and I think he peaked at the right time of the season, where he qualified for state and we knew that there was gonna be some great competition for him to face. Obviously, we wanted him to try his best, but medaling, with the top 12 getting medals, we knew it was probably gonna be a long shot, that’s why we worked on his start. We knew he had a good mid race and he has a pretty strong kick. I think the weather with it being so cold, it just kind of affected his race a little bit more than we thought it would,” said Lutterman.
Andemichael’s strong performance is something the Bluejays can take forward into next year. For now, keep following boys and girls XC throughout the offseason on KDLS and on our website at raccoonvalleyradio.com.
