The annual Greene County Chapter of Pheasants Forever Banquet and Auction is Saturday.

President Kevin Devilbliss says the event takes place at Clover Hall on the Greene County Fairgrounds in Jefferson with a social time at 5:30pm, dinner served at 7pm and the live auction to follow. There is a live and silent auction, along with various raffles happening throughout the evening. Devilbliss talks about one of the big ticket auction items is a featured firearm.

“Yeah we have a really nice 20-gauge over/under (shotgun) which is the gun of the year, which will be on live auction. It’s actually the Quail (Forever) Unlimited Gun of the Year. We prefer the 20-gauge over the 12-gauge Pheasant Forever Gun of the Year. Both organizations are the same, basically. So we bought the Quail Forever because we thought we liked it a little better.”

Devilbliss points out most of the proceeds from this main fundraiser stays in Greene County and is used to purchase seeds for farmers to plant wildlife food plots, along with sending young teen girls to camp and there is a shelterbelt program for cost sharing with farmers. He adds that they also give funds to the national organization for different programs, as well as the state fund which is used to purchase additional wildlife acres. Devilbliss describes the details about the girls camp.

“The DNR (Department of Natural Resources) puts it on, they used to have it at Springbrook (State Park) but now it’s a little further away, and they go for three days and learn about the outdoors and that. And we sponsor two, three, four girls a year if we can find them.”

Tickets are $55 per person, which includes an annual membership to Pheasants Forever, $70 for a couple, or $15 for anyone 16 and younger that must be accompanied by an adult. Contact Devilbliss to purchase tickets at 515-386-3762
