A free program is coming up this week at the Greene County ISU Extension Office.
Tree Talk will be led by Trees Forever Coordinator in Jefferson Brad Riphagen on Friday from 9:30-11am. The licensed arborist will begin with a short presentation and then open it up for questions from the audience. He points out one significant topic will be the impact that the Emerald Ash Borer is having on everyone’s ash trees, including the hundreds of trees that the City of Jefferson crews have already removed in the right of way.
“If you think about how many trees are on private property, there’s probably two to three times as many ash trees on private property as there are for the city so that’s a lot of trees coming out of a community. So we try to find ways to encourage people to plant as diverse and another population of trees to continue on. Because everybody had to do that after the elm trees went to. So let’s try to figure it out this time and do a better job.”
Friday’s Tree Talk program is free and open to the public.
