Halloween is approaching and the Perry Police Department is stressing the importance of safety during the festivities.

Police Chief Eric Vaughn says the best thing for trick or treaters to do is wear visible clothing or attach a reflective device to a costume. Vaughn says that children need to be seen in the night along with being able to see.

Every year there’s always kids and their masks aren’t fitting quite right so well they really can’t see out of them. So make sure your kids have good visibility, too, when they’re out there. Um, going from house to house, try to keep in neighborhoods that, you know, and people that you know, just to make sure they’re safe. Have an adult with them if you can.”

Vaughn reminds parents and guardians to have their children make eye contact with motorists before crossing the street. He also asks motorists to be extra cautious with trick or treaters out and about.
