Greene County head football coach Caden Duncan talked with Raccoon Valley Radio about the 2023 season. The Rams had an unusually high number of injuries and for the first time in Duncan’s five years as head coach, lost more games than they won. Greene County went 3-5 overall and 1-4 in Class 2A District 8, and the Rams missed the playoffs for the first time since 2017.
Injuries were certainly a factor. but the coach also pointed to not being able to run the ball as well as in recent seasons, as well as not tackling as well as he’d like to see. “When we lost in the round of 16 in the 2022 playoffs to a really good West Lyon (Inwood) team, their coach complimented our players after the game for how well we tackled. We didn’t do that as well this season, and we’ve already made that a point of emphasis for next season. We’ve got to tackle better, and we believe we have the players that are capable of doing that.”
The top two teams from District 8 won their first round playoff games and will play in the Round of 16 this Friday night. Roland-Story (Story) travels to top ranked Central Lyon/George-Little Rock, while District 8 Champion Kuemper Catholic (Carroll) plays at Carroll Athletic Field vs. Clarinda.
