A Thursday afternoon fire destroys a Midland Power Cooperative building in Boone and postpones a dedication ceremony.
According to a press release from Midland Power the newly built warehouse that is located just south of the administrative building on south Highway 30 in Boone was on fire around 3:30pm. The 7,500-square foot facility was a total loss, along with two pickup trucks, an SUV and a forklift. All employees were accounted for and no one was hurt. Only the warehouse was destroyed and the adjacent office building was not damaged and is open for regular business hours.
While the cause of the fire remains under investigation, the fire had no impact on electrical services or the company’s ability to respond to future unplanned power outages. The incident did force Wednesday, October 25th’s planned dedication ceremony of the new facility for the line worker training field. The event will be rescheduled in the coming weeks.
Midland Power CEO Bill McKim said in a statement that he’s grateful to the Boone and Ogden Fire Departments for their response and outstanding work. He was also happy that none of the employees were hurt or injured.
