One federal lawmaker from Iowa is weighing in on the unprecedented indictments and charges against former President Donald Trump.

US Senator Chuck Grassley says he’s surprised that with everything the former president is facing in the courts that Trump continues to do well in political polls as the leading candidate for the Republican nomination for president, and because of all the publicity about the alleged legal issues, it has enhanced Trump’s ability to secure the presidential nomination.

“I believe that it comes from the fact that people, particularly Republicans, see the political bias in this prosecution. And even (the) attorney general of New York (Letitia James) being elected on a platform that she was going to prosecute Trump is adequate proof of the political bias. But also at the federal level, political bias, you see it all the time in how (2016 Democratic Presidential nominee and former Secretary of State) Hillary Clinton got away with destroying (classified) documents and Trump is being prosecuted for keeping (classified) documents, not destroying them, but keeping them.”

Grassley believes it is the unequal application of the law that has strengthened Trump’s popularity in the polls for the Republican nomination.
