The City of Perry accepted a grant that would further along one of their future projects.
City Administrator Sven Peterson says that they received a U.S.Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Award for a Community Project Funding Grant that will be used for their Downtown Improvements phase one. Peterson says the city was awarded nearly two million dollars of congressional appropriation for the renovations of Perry’s downtown. Peterson tells Raccoon Valley Radio that this project will start in 2024. He notes it will have full reconstruction of streets and sidewalks on 2nd Avenue from Willis to Warford Street and the north and south alley between Warford and Lucinda.
“Definitely an exciting project, some what we refer to as short term pain in that construction project. Project for definitely some long term benefit for all that either have businesses downtown or visit downtown. So I’m very excited about that. We just went through a really great public input process to kind of learn what the community wants with some of the features in that project.”
