There are a couple of free programs coming up for youth in Jefferson.

The Jefferson Public Library and Warm Wishes are partnering together for a Spooky Crafternoon this Saturday from 2-3:30pm at Warm Wishes. Youth Services Librarian Bailey Mount says the pre-kindergarten through third graders are going to make trash monsters out of different materials and ghost masks. As an added bonus, Mount points out she will have a small mobile book check-out available for participants as well.

“They get excited to check out books because I do bring this sort of unofficial mobile check-out with me, I bring about 8-10 books, I have their barcodes lined up and if the parents have library cards, all I need to do is scan them, and when I head back to the library I put everything into the system and the book is checked out.”

There are limited spots available for the Spooky Crafternoon.

Mount says there is the second annual Haunted Gingerbread Houses coming up for fifth through eighth graders on Monday, October 23rd from 2-4pm. She tells Raccoon Valley Radio this program was a huge success last year.

“Haunted Gingerbread Houses are already in and of themselves kind of odd because you’re just stealing something from Christmas and making it kind of spooky. I cannot wait to see what these kids come up with this year, and I can’t wait to see if it’s going to be the same ones or a whole different crew.”
