Paton-Churdan’s 2023 high school volleyball season ended in Colo on M0nday night with a Class 1A Region 5 opening round loss to Colo-Nesco. The Rockets won a set for the first time this season when took the opener by a 25-16 score. P-C dropped the next three by scores of 11-25, 8-25, 14-25, and the Rockets went 0-14 in matches this season and 1-40 in sets. Coach Makayla Spaar told Raccoon Valley Radio “This was not the outcome we were hoping for, but we had a glimpse of what our future will look like next year with all but one of our players returning to our starting lineup.” Mia Russell led the Rockets in kills with six. Ella Tasler had two ace serves and Hailey Hoyle was the leader in digs with nine.

Greene County opens Class 3A Region 3 volleyball tonight at 7 in Van Meter vs. the host Bulldogs. Coach Chris Heisterkamp’s Ram are 15-12 and VM is 20-10 as the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference Rams take on the West Central Activities Conference Bulldogs. The winner advances to Thursday night’s semifinal at Des Moines Christian vs. the fifth ranked Lions or Atlantic. The other teams in Region 3 are Red Oak, Harlan Community, Clarke (Osceola), and Clarinda.
