State parks and campgrounds are preparing for winter, with cooler temperatures currently moving in.

Iowa Department of Natural Resources Natural Resource Technician 1 Reaghan Oakleaf says that at Springbrook State Park, she has started preparations for colder weather. She tells Raccoon Valley Radio how the process works.

“We went ahead and shut down both of our shower houses in order to get those prepared. We basically get some RV (recreational vehicle) antifreeze and flush it through all of our pipes to make sure they don’t freeze over winter. Last week, we closed our beach shower house restroom and the water over by the CCC shelter and picnic area. So that, we just shut off our main switch. Nothing too special for that.”

Oakleaf mentions that there are two restrooms that will stay operational in case campers should need them while they camp over winter. She adds that other than those two, everything else will be shut off and winterized by November 1st.
