Dallas Center-Grimes football is looking to rebound from last week’s loss at Glenwood as they come home tonight against a district opponent in week eight.
There are two games left in the Class 4a football season. The (3-4) Mustangs still have a shot to make the playoffs but they have to take care of business when they face the (2-5) Winterset Huskies. Dallas Center-Grimes Head Football Coach Scott Heitland said while they suffered their first district loss against Glenwood, he felt like they figured some things out on the offensive side of the ball.
“We really found some things that were working. We really found some things that we were having some success with and the offense’s confidence was really, really high. I think there was just one possession we had. Like you said, I think you had three punts on the night and there was one possession where we were driving, and I was feeling really good that it was going to end up in points. We had back to back false start penalties and that was kind of a little reminiscent of maybe some things that we struggled with in weeks one and two.”
Heitland also talked highly of his defense, which has limited back to back high powered passing offenses to limited points, but he notes that will drastically change this week.
“When you think about Winterset football, you don’t think about passing the football. You think about the run game. Traditionally, they’re a very ground and pound type of team. They’re going to come in and want to play physically at the line of scrimmage.”
Mustangs will have to get senior running back Eli Carpenter going early. Carpenter has rushed for over 100 yards in his last five games with eight touchdowns. The game will be broadcasted live on KDLS-2 with pregame at 6pm and kickoff is set for 7pm.
