Relay for Life of Guthrie County is getting ready for some fundraising opportunities coming up.
This Saturday, October 14th, they will be holding an event in conjunction with Main Street Guthrie Center and the Guthrie Center Chamber of Commerce. Event Co-Lead Becky Petersen says that they’ll be serving a free will donation breakfast and lunch during the farmers market. She tells Racoon Valley Radio why the organization holds fundraisers.
“Relay for Life has two main goals. We raise money for the American Cancer Society, who then puts those funds that we raised towards research for cancer. And then we also have the Hope Lodges in the area, which we have several of our local residents who have used our Hope Lodges, along with ride share programs, a 1-800 number that people can call. But in conjunction with that, we really want the communities to know that they’re not alone and that all of us have been affected by this, and we’re all here for each other during the difficult times.”
Petersen also mentions that they will be helping with Pink Out Games for the schools of Guthrie County, but they are still working on setting dates with the different administration teams.
