October is Domestic Awareness Month, which sheds light on the signs of abuse and ways to stop it.
Crisis Intervention and Advocacy Center Sexual Assault Response Director Brittany Shinn says they are increasing their outreach effort to reassure survivors that they are not alone along with sharing their free resources available to them. Shinn says that they’re working to end the stigma that often comes with being a survivor.
“The more that we have these types of opportunities to speak to communities and have more awareness around these issues, it’s helpful to all survivors. Like I said, everyone knows somebody. Everyone is impacted by it. one in three women. That’s a lot. one in four men. So I think just talking and having these opportunities to educate the community is most helpful.”
Shinn mentions that they serve survivors of domestic violence in a 10 county area including Dallas, Guthrie and Adair Counties. Shinn says that they provide free and confidential services to males and females that include housing assistance, counselling, medical advocacy and more. Shinn notes the best way to receive these services is by using their contact number linked here.
