A Boone man was recently sentenced to prison for an alleged January incident in Jefferson.
According to court documents, 45-year-old Michael Glynn pled guilty to a Class D Felony for Iowa Lottery violation and an aggravated misdemeanor for third degree theft. He was sentenced to no more than five years in prison for the felony conviction and two years in prison for the misdemeanor. Court documents show the sentences were to run concurrently with another unrelated case in Boone County where Glynn was found guilty by a jury for arson, possession of ammunition by a prohibited person and burglary and sentenced to 55 years in prison. He is currently appealing that decision.
The Greene County charges stem from an incident on January 21st and 22nd. During the investigation, the Jefferson Police Department found that Glynn used four checks at the main Hy-Vee store and the Fast and Fresh gas station that totaled $837. Hy-Vee sent a ten-day notice by certified mail on January 26th wanting Glynn to pay the full amount by February 5th. The notice came back unclaimed. Glynn purchased five lottery scratch tickets and prepaid VISA gift cards, among other items.
Glynn was also ordered to pay over $1,500 in victim restitution, court costs and court-appointed attorney fees. As per the plea agreement, Glynn had four other felony charges for Iowa Lottery violations dismissed.
