A main road project in Greene County was recently completed.
Greene County Engineer Wade Weiss says the asphalt overlay project on County Road E-57 from Iowa Highway 4 to County Road P-14 is done.
“We’re pretty happy with the outcome. We did a lot of driveway improvements for safety, (and) some extension of cross road pipe. So the county did a lot of work down there in preparation for this. And then after we got the seeding down (and) got grass growing already so that’s nice.”
The contractor was Fort Dodge Asphalt and the cost was $2.4 million, which Weiss points out where the majority of the funding for this project came from.
“This was a federal aid project that we compete with six other counties or those dollars. We’ve had that on the books for about five years, maybe a little longer than that, but it was our turn to spend the money. So we’re fortunate to get that project complete.”
Weiss adds this section of road is much smoother and a great improvement to the original 1957 concrete.
