A Jefferson man was arrested for an alleged incident that happened last December.
According to court documents, a Jefferson Police Officer conducted a traffic stop on December 31, 2022 at 1:48am on West Adams Street, west of Elm Street. The stop was for a non-functioning license plate light and the plate not being visible due to dirt.
As the officer was speaking to the driver, 25-year-old Justin Lopez, he said he was driving someone home who was intoxicated but admitted that his license was suspended. Once Lopez exited the vehicle, the officer could smell possible marijuana odor coming from the vehicle. The officer took Lopez and the passenger to Lopez’s residence to drop off the passenger and then returned to the vehicle.
Court documents show that the officer arrested Lopez and said he will be executing a probable cause search of the vehicle. The officer found drug-related items, including a baggy with possible psychedelic mushrooms. The drug items were submitted to the Criminalistics Laboratory for testing and this past April, the items tested positive for Psilocybin Mushrooms. A warrant was issued charging Lopez with a Class D Felony for his third or subsequent offense for possession of a controlled substance violation, an aggravated misdemeanor for his third or subsequent offense for possession of marijuana, and a simple misdemeanor for possession of drug paraphernalia.
He was recently arrested and booked into the Greene County Jail. Raccoon Valley Radio will bring you more information as it becomes official.
