The AC/GC Chargers football team traveled to Mount Ayr Friday to take on the Raiders, and came away with a statement victory.
The Raiders scored first, but had their PAT attempt blocked by senior Anthony Solorzano. The Chargers then scored and took the lead 7-6. The Raiders picked up another touchdown, but were stuffed on the two point conversion, before AC/GC punched in another score, and took a 14-12 lead. Before the half was up, Mount Ayr collected their final touchdown, and were kept from getting the extra points again, while the Chargers scored twice more, and went into halftime up 28-18.
The teams came back out and the Chargers began a strong defensive showing, keeping the Raiders scoreless, while picking up two more scores, and ending the game with a 42-18 victory. The team had several takeaways on defense, including a fumble recovery each for seniors Payton Jacobe and Tegan Slaybaugh, and an interception by junior Taytum Bates. The Chargers will return to action next Friday, as they head to Corning to take on a struggling Southwest Valley.
