The last home game of the 2023 high school football season is tonight for the Greene County Rams at Linduska Field in Jefferson. Coach Caden Duncan’s Rams host the Jaguars of Southeast Valley (Gowrie) in a Class 2A District 8 matchup. It’s Senior night as well and this group of seniors needs a win to get into the playoffs. The same is true for the Jaguars, so there’s a lot on the line for these two teams who are both 1-2 in the district with wins vs. Saydel (Des Moines). Both have lost to Roland-Story (Story City) with the other district loss for the Rams to Kuemper Catholic (Carroll) while SEV lost to Des Moines Christian. The Class 2A regular season ends next Friday night with the playoffs starting on Oct. 20.

Coach Duncan told Raccoon Valley Radio he’s facing his high school head coach, Mike Swieter, for the first time in a varsity game. There are numerous connections between coaching staffs, players, and the two schools. Another example is Mitch Murphy, a member of the famed JSPC team of 1999 is now an assistant coach for the Jaguars.

Game time is 7 p.m. with coverage at 6:30 p.m. on KG98 and streaming on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.
