An Ames woman was recently sentenced to probation for a January incident in Jefferson.
According to court documents, 31-year-old Katie Wisecup pled guilty to an aggravated misdemeanor for third degree fraudulent practices. She had a two year prison sentence suspended and was placed on probation for one year with the Greene County Sheriff’s Office.
The charge stemmed from an incident on January 15th at Wild Rose Casino and Resort in Jefferson. Forty-two-year-old Brandon Svaleson won a jackpot on a slot machine when he asked Wisecup to sit at his machine and claim the jackpot. Wisecup agreed but when law enforcement reviewed video surveillance footage, it was Svaleson who won the jackpot and owed the Iowa Department of Administrative Services Offset Program over $24,000. Svaleson was also sentenced to one year of probation with the Boone and Greene County Probation Services.
Court documents show that as per the plea agreement, Wisecup was ordered to pay over $900 of fines, surcharges and court costs. She also had a Class D Felony for gambling-avoid setoff dismissed.
