As the high school volleyball season winds down for Dallas Center-Grimes it has been apparent that they have two freshman standouts.
Freshman Maggie Leifker and Gwen Farley have skipped the usual stepping stone of Junior varsity to get to the varsity level because of their talent. Leifker has started all 25 matches, led the team in total blocks (37), tallied the second most kills on the team with (138) and served 38 aces which is a team high. Farley has also started all 25 matches while serving the ball at a high percentage (%94) with 24 aces and on defense she has the second most digs on the team with (153). DCG Head Volleyball Coach Meg Jackson says it’s no surprise that Leifker and Farley are making an impact as Freshman.
“Addie Abens also comes in sometimes as a hitter for us. She’s also another freshman. So they’re all pretty high level athletes that have been in some pretty heavy competition. And so mentally I feel like they can hang. Physically they can hang. But as a coach, it’s always very exciting, too, because, you know, you’re going to have them for four years.”
Dallas Center-Grimes volleyball won two games in the Urbandale Invite over Council Bluffs Lincoln and North Polk. The Mustangs also lost to Johnston and Des Moines Christian. They have a (16-9)(2-2) record and will face Norwalk on the road at 7pm tonight.
