The Perry Municipal Airport is getting an extension to their runway and the project is running smoothly.

Perry Public Works Director Josh Wuebker says that they have installed phase one of the project that includes the 4,000 foot runway and now they will turn their attention to adding an additional 1,500 feet. Wuebker says when it’s done the runway will be 5,500 feet long which will be the same length of ankeny municipal airport’s runway. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio that he is pleased with how the project is moving so far.

“The goal is to have that 1500 foot extension poured this fall. So by the time they have to do the lights and everything, I’m not sure when that runway will actually open. There’s some land acquisition, some earthmoving and different stuff like that. But for the most part, right on track.”

The Federal Aviation Administration has invested $14 million dollars into this project.
