A Jefferson couple were recently arrested for alleged drug possession.
According to court documents, a Jefferson Police Officer conducted a traffic stop at North Maple Street and West State Street shortly before 9:30pm Wednesday night for a non-functioning brake light. The officer knew the driver, 43-year-old Christopher Lawrence, and saw him digging around something next to him and signs that he could be under the influence. When Lawrence was taken out of the vehicle, the officer heard the sound of shattered glass and when the officer checked, he discovered possible methamphetamine pipes were broken from the passenger side.
The officer asked the passenger, 23-year-old Audrie Lawrence to step out of the vehicle and collect the shattered glass for evidence. After reading Audrie her Miranda Rights, Audrie later claimed to the officer that Christopher had her throw out the glass pipes because he was nervous. She also consented to providing a witness statement to what she told the officer. The officer advised Christopher of what Audrie said and he also consented to a field sobriety test. Christopher later admitted that he had taken Hydrocodone and Oxy. He said one was prescribed to him and the other he took from his father.
Christopher was arrested and charged with a Class D Felony for his third or subsequent offense for possession of a controlled substance violation, a serious misdemeanor for his first offense for an OWI, and a simple misdemeanor for possession of drug paraphernalia. Audrie was arrested and charged with an aggravated misdemeanor for her third or subsequent offense for possession of marijuana, a serious misdemeanor for her first offense for possession of methamphetamine and a simple misdemeanor for possession of drug paraphernalia. Both were booked into the Greene County Jail. Raccoon Valley Radio will bring you more information as it becomes official.
