It’s National 4-H Week and Greene County ISU Extension is celebrating all week.

Greene County ISU Extension 4-H and Youth Coordinator Samantha Hardaway says for Monday, 4-H’ers and non-4-H’ers are participating in “4-H After School” where they will explore areas of 4-H including livestock judging, visual art, Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) activities, citizenship and leadership projects.

Then Tuesday, Thursday and Friday are social media challenge days, with Tuesday being “Trivia Tuesday,” Thursday as “Throwback Thursday,” and Friday is “Fair Friday.” Hardaway says 4-H’ers can go to their Facebook page, Greene County Iowa 4H, and answer trivia questions, post pictures from past years in 4-H and county fair pictures and be entered into a drawing for a prize at the end of the week. As for Wednesday, Hardaway says it is “Enrollment Night” at Greene County Extension Office. From 3:30-6pm Hardaway will assist anyone who needs help enrolling or re-enrolling into 4-H and Clover Kids.

4-H’ers and Clover Kids are encouraged to wear their 4-H shirts throughout the week and post a picture on their Facebook page to be entered into another drawing. Hardaway talks about what she likes during National 4-H Week and the importance of having this week to highlight the youth program.

“(It’s) always great when our community can come together for a common cause and National 4-H Week is always that first week in October. I guess one of my favorite things is just seeing all the kids wearing their 4-H shirts to school. That’s been something we’ve done every year during National 4-H Week. And it’s just a really great way for youth to recognize that they are in 4-H and they are getting involved in other things outside of the school system. So I think it’s just really great that we come together for that week during the fall.”

Additionally, Greene County 4-H yard signs will be on display across the county of those who donated $10 in support of the local 4-H program.
