The 5-0 AC/GC Chargers football team is getting ready to defend the home field once again this week, as they take on the 3-2 IKM-Manning Wolves for Senior Night.
Leading the Chargers in passing and rushing yards is junior quarterback Jathan South, completing 4 of 12 passes for 124 yards and one touchdown in the air, and putting up 567 yards and 9 touchdowns on 61 carries. Senior Anthony Solorzano leads the team in receiving yards, with 2 receptions for 78 yards and a touchdown, and tacks on 468 yards and 4 touchdowns on the ground, while fellow senior Tegan Slaybaugh leads the team on the defensive front, with 35.5 tackles, 2 of which are for a loss of yards.
For the Wolves, sophomore Ben Ramsey leads in passing yards, completing on 59 of the 99 passes for 633 yards and 6 touchdowns, while junior Ben Langel leads in rushing yards, with 409 yards and 9 touchdowns on 92 attempts. Senior Ross Kusel leads in receiving yards with 242 yards and 3 touchdowns on 22 receptions, while fellow senior Nolan Kerkhoff leads defensively with 44 total tackles, 4 of which were for a loss of yards.
The two teams have met each other in action four times in the past, with the Chargers trailing 3-1, and having won the last game in 2019. The Iowa High School Athletic Association’s mid season rankings have the Chargers in 5th place in the state in Class A.
