The Iowa Department of Natural Resources suggests we enjoy Iowa’s fall weather and colors, as they are arriving

In the first fall report the colors are becoming more apparent . Hard maples are turning red, yellow and orange in some areas.  Roadside sumacs are bright red and crimson.  Walnut, cottonwood and hackberry are becoming yellow.  Virginia creeper vines are bright red. However, the drought is causing stress and defoliation which will reduce overall colors. The peak viewing for fall colors in central Iowa will be the first through third week of October.
