Dallas Center-Grimes football has had an excellent year already on the defensive side of the ball, and one multi sport athlete has had a major impact.

Junior free safety Tate Perrin had two interceptions against Council Bluffs Thomas Jefferson and now he has a state class4a leading five interceptions on the season. Perrin has also added 16 total tackles and 14 solo tackles on top of the takeaways. For those that don’t know, Perrin is a three sport athlete excelling on the basketball court scoring seven points per game with three assist and on the baseball diamond where he roamed centerfield and did not make an error on 80 attempts while having an on base percentage on .380. DCG’s Head Football Coach Scott Heitland says that Perrin playing multi sports throughout the season has helped him in many ways.

“If you watched him and I know you did cause you covered all our baseball games. How many balls did you see that kid run down and catch and maybe not have be in the best position, maybe catch over his shoulder or catch on the run or catch coming forward. That’s all he’s doing in football. He’s back there playing center field and that ball is in the air. He runs it down. He tracks it down just like he does at baseball. And I will guarantee you that it’s his experience on the baseball diamond that’s helping him right now in his instincts on the football field.”

Dallas Center-Grimes will celebrate their homecoming this week and then they will play Norwalk at home on Friday. KDLS-2 will broadcast the game live. For Coach Scott Heitland’s thoughts on last week’s football game tune into Dallas County PM Sports Page which is linked here.
